OUT at CHM: From New Town to Boystown to Lake View
OFFSITE Event. Historically Boystown has been a refuge where LGBTQ people could live freely, protected from the prejudices of the larger society. But how tolerant and harmonious is this famous "gayborhood?"
Who has benefitted from its inclusive reputation and who has been excluded? This program explores the triumphs of the nation's first officially recognized gay village, born of activism in 1970 when residents marched here in Chicago's first Pride Parade. It also examines the underlying social tensions-historic and current-between those who live, work, and play in Boystown, asking the question, "Whose neighborhood is it, anyway?"
